Abstract
Introduction: Overnutrition generates a significant public health problem due to its healthcare and social costs. Objective: To identify patients with overnutrition and comorbidities who attend the nutrition clinic at the Bautista Medical Center from January 2023 to October 2024. Methodology: A retrospective, descriptive, cross-sectional observational study that included 93 patients, with a higher number of women 61.3% and men 39%. Results: The predominant age group was between 18 and 39 years (47.3%) with a mean of 43±19.8 years. Diagnosis based on body mass index (BMI) showed 60.2% obesity, 34.4% overweight, and 5.4% normal weight. The BMI by sex revealed a higher frequency of overweight or obesity. The percentage of overweight was higher in women than in men (25.8%; 8.6%), however, the degree of obesity was also higher in women than in men (31.2%; 29%). Abdominal circumference was increased in 83.3% of men, followed by 66.7% of women. Dyslipidemia was higher in 25.8% (n=24) of patients, hypertension in 21.5% (n=20), undoubtedly due to the percentage of dyslipidemia. Fatty liver disease was present in 11.8% (n=11) of patients, followed by diabetes in 10.8% (n=10) and prediabetes in 6.5% (n=6) Conclusion: The implication of overweight or obesity in the development of associated pathologies or comorbidities could be demonstrated, although the figures are worrying.
