Abstract
Introduction: Cervical cancer (CaCu) is a public health problem, where support networks are important for patients with this diagnosis, since they provide emotional support, improve quality of life and facilitate coping with the disease. The objective was to identify the support network for patients with CaCu at the "Dr. Alberto López Hermosa" in the period of May-June 2023. Material and methods. Quantitative, descriptive and cross-sectional study, where a non-probabilistic quota sample was used where 50 patients diagnosed with CaCu participated. The Social Support Scale instrument was applied, which evaluates family, friends and social support. The data were analyzed in the SPSS V. 21 statistical program where descriptive statistics were performed. Results. 34% (n=17) of the patients were between 30 and 39 years old, 50% (n=25) had high school education, 90% (n=45) reported that their family is affectionate with them, 66% (n=33) received affection from their friends and 82% (n=41) had at least one support person in their environment. Conclusions. Social support networks, especially family and friends, are important for Potosí patients with CaCu, as they contribute to their emotional well-being and quality of life. This research lays the foundation as it is the first research of this type carried out in San Luis Potosí, and the importance of promoting support networks in these patients is also highlighted.
