Abstract
Objective: To develop a Nursing Care Plan (PLACE) for a clinical case of an adult patient diagnosed with Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) hospitalized in a Secondary Care Hospital in the city of San Luis Potosí, Mexico. Methodology. The clinical case of a patient diagnosed with COPD hospitalized in a secondary care hospital in San Luis Potosí, Mexico, was identified. A nursing assessment was conducted using Marjory Gordon’s functional patterns to identify the main nursing diagnoses according to the NANDA, NIC, and NOC taxonomy. The diagnoses were prioritized according to Maslow’s pyramid. Results. PLACE criteria were developed for diagnoses labeled a) Impaired gas exchange, b) Acute confusion, and c) Risk for aspiration. Conclusion. The implementation of PLACE practices allows for a comprehensive approach to COPD patients, ensuring quality and caring care. Documenting these practices allows for the generation of solid clinical evidence. This approach improves patient care and promotes the implementation of practice-based care.
