Abstract
Students and professionals in dentistry are exposed to multiple dental materials both during their academic training and in the development of their professional life, some of these materials are triggers of allergies that can affect their good performance. puncture. The dentist must recognize the signs and symptoms associated with allergic reactions, identify the cause and avoid exposure of the patient or dental staff. The objective of this research was to analyze the allergic reactions caused by alginates composed of menthol. For research, a qualitative, descriptive level, cross-sectional approach was used, and it presents a not-experimental design, based on bibliographic reviews. The menthol in the aromatic composition is present in some alginates for dental use as dental impression material, to give the patient a pleasant sensation; however, there are also allergic reactions reported in the bibliographies referring to this component and that merit a more specific study in the field. Based on the analysis, it is concluded that there are hypersensitivity and/or allergic reactions to the alginate composed of Menthol, highlighting the latter as the cause of it.
