Abstract

Cooperative learning has emerged as a relevant educational strategy in various fields and educational levels. It is based on the premise that group work promotes more effective learning by encouraging interaction between students and the joint construction of knowledge. A quantitative, descriptive, retrospective and cross-sectional study was carried out in order to describe the effectiveness and perception of cooperative learning in the 2023 students of Biochemistry in the Bachelor of Nursing at the Faculty of Medicine of the Universidad Nacional del Nordeste, during the period 2023. A Cooperative Learning questionnaire was applied, elaborated and validated by Fernández-Rio et al. (2017), to the entire population, a total of 143 students who studied the curricular space and who met the inclusion criteria for this study, during June and July 2023. The results revealed that the majority of the students belonged to the age range of 18 to 23 years, representing 69.1% of the population. In addition, a clear predominance of the female gender was demonstrated in the sample, with 77.8% of the students identifying themselves as women. Regarding the perception of students in the dimension “Positive interdependence”, the results were highly positive. In the “Promoting interaction” dimension, it was shown that the majority of students (64.6%) recognized the need to interact and relate during group activities. In relation to the “Individual responsibility” dimension, it was found that the vast majority of students (86.4%) fully agreed that each member of the group should actively participate in the tasks and 84.8% fully agreed that each member of the group must strive to achieve the objectives. Regarding the “Group processing” dimension, the results showed that a significant proportion of students (49.4%) considered important sharing to share the group’s progress and knowledge. Finally, in the dimension “Social skills”, the results reflected that the students valued the importance of dialogue, listening skills and debate within the group. The results of this research indicate that Biochemistry students in the Nursing Degree have a positive perception towards cooperative learning. They recognize the importance of interaction, individual responsibility and social skills in the group learning process.
