Abstract
Asthenopia is a set of ocular symptoms that affects people’s quality of life, as well as their productivity. This has a huge impact on university students, who need to be in their maximum health to be able to maintain good academic performance. A descriptive, observational and cross-sectional study was carried out with the purpose of identifying the prevalence of asthenopia and its relationship with associated factors in sixth-year university medical students. The study compiled the responses of 106 students, of which 101 reported having symptoms of asthenopia. In addition, data were obtained on demographics, types of screen and exposure time, reason for using it, type of symptoms and preventive measures taken to avoid the latter. Results demonstrate that there is a high prevalence of asthenopia in the population studied, related to the extensive hours of exposure to digital screens, among other notable factors.
